What we do
Historical Adventures Ltd. is a highly successful theatre company that has been running since 2006. We pride ourselves in our dedication to have everything that we do, fully accessible.
Our aim is to get the best from everyone that we work with by developing and encouraging their confidence and aiding in expressing themselves through drama. Performing skills and stagecraft are taught, which in turn helps them to gain much more from the experience, meet lots of friends and generally have a lot of fun. We put on various major performances each year.
We run Youth Theatres, after school clubs and ASN/SEN classes. All are based on promoting fun, confidence, teamwork and expression. Our aims for these classes are to have people laughing, having fun and learning all about the skills involved in theatre. Drama should be fun and engaging. We run regular classes in Renfrewshire East Renfrewshire and Glasgow.
We also regularly deliver our Theatre in Education School Tours to schools in the West of Scotland. We have been running a very successful Musical production of Tam O Shanter since 2014 which has been highly recommended by the many schools that have taken us on year after year. Other tour subjects that we offer include WW2, Bullying, internet safety and many more. If we don’t already cover a topic that you would like, then please feel free to contact us to see how we can make it happen.
All of our staff are professional workshop leaders and actors and are fully P.V.G checked.

Artistic director john henderson
John has been dedicated to Community Drama ever since he finished his HND in Acting & Performance in 2005. From a young age, he always been involved in Theatre and Acting groups whether as part of School activities or from outside groups. It was after his College education he got the post of an Assistant Drama Tutor with the East Renfrewshire Council working under David O’Rorke, where the two quickly became friends.
Sadly all good things eventually come to an end but as they did, a new door of opportunity opened, as David had started his own Company and had asked John to come along for the ride. During this period, John even went to University while still providing work for David and the Historical Adventures family. It was here that John managed to achieve a 2:1 BA Hons Degree in Performance.
After his success from University, the work for John exploded; from multiple after school Theatre classes in various Council districts throughout Renfrewshire to establishing regular afterschool classes in the Schools themselves, John has met and dealt with children, teenagers and even adults of all various kinds of talent and skills.
John currently runs three afterschool drama classes at three separate schools throughout the week, though you must be a pupil in order to attend these. Within these classes, John will help the children with their improvisation, their vocal intonation as well as their concentration and character skills. All of this helps to work towards regular end of year performances for the parents and family of all the pupils who take part in the classes.
In addition to this, John has learned a few new skills of his own. In which he has ran various circus skills workshops that deal in Juggling and Plate Spinning, which has become very popular for both Day Out activities and Children’s parties.
In more recent years, John’s main focus and primary line of work within Community Drama is facilitating classes for Additional Support Needs children, teenagers and adults. This work has included directing and writing yearly Pantomime’s for Enable Scotland. It has also included workshops, shows and Pantomimes for the Mirin and Milldale Day Opportunity Centres. Finally, John has ran workshops which explore storytelling, character work and improvisation for Riverbrae Primary School. In addition, while at Riverbrae, John directed their Christmas show which was an all singing and all dancing affair, in which the Nursery and Primary classes performed a version of the Nativity, with the Secondary classes performing their version of Aladdin.
